A Community First Responder is a volunteer who, within the community in which they live or work, have been trained to attend emergency calls received by the ambulance services, and provide potentially life-saving treatment and first aid until an ambulance arrives.
Responders are trained to use Automated External Defibrillator, Oxygen, and other lifesaving equipment, maintain patient stability and to assist ambulance crews.
Individuals must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid CPR Level C.

Training is normally over 2 weekends beginning on Friday with 4 hours, Saturday 8 hours, and Sunday with 8 hours for a total of 40 hours of training. Ahtahkakoop First Responder group may provide travel assistance for training.
