Position: Medical Office Assistant and Children Oral Health Initiative Aide
Type: 1 Year TERM position – Six( 6) month probationary period.
Salary: Depending on qualifications and experience.
MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT AND COHI AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) Aide is responsible for administration and reporting duties, program management, and taking an active role in promoting COHI to help the children establish and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Prior to performing COHI services, the COHI Aide will be required to successfully complete COHI training. Re-certification of COHI training will be completed annually.
Medical office Assistant (MOA) is required to help the physician and other medical practitioners in carrying out various tasks such as preparing and maintaining the patient’s files, answering to the patient’s queries on the phone, giving appointments to the patients, etc. These professionals are also required to deal with different staff members from other departments to get various tasks done. MOA training available.
The duties of the COHI Aide are as follows:
Act as a link between the dental professional and the community.
Collect appropriately completed authorization forms for COHI services.
Collect verbal or written medical history updates for children enrolled in COHI.
Make home visits in the community.
Complete, update, and maintain forms/records for COHI in an appropriate and confidential manner.
Apply fluoride varnish to the children in the community.
Train the parents and caregivers in basic oral hygiene methods for themselves and children in their care.
Schedule and deliver COHI services in a timely manner.
Arrange clinics for children aged 0 to 7 for the COHI Dental Therapist as required.
Assist in arranging presentations to individuals and groups such as daycare operators, pregnant women, parents/caregivers, Headstart children, and others as required.
The duties of the MOA are as follows:
Required to book patient’s appointments with the doctor or nurse Practitioner.
Needs to follow the instructions given by the doctors and carry out various tasks accordingly.
Register the patients when they arrive and direct them appropriately.
Required to complete the initial formalities and paper work with patient.
Required to maintain a record of the patients who attend clinic.
Needs to prepare and maintain the patient’s files.
Required to help the patients in filling the insurance forms.
Required to arrange for laboratory services for the patients.
The skills and specifications that are required to become a Medical Office Assistant are as follows:
Medical Office Assistant must have good communication skills.
Medical Office Assistant is required to have good time management skills.
Effective verbal & written communication skills.
Must have good time management skills.
Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision.
Satisfactory security clearance.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License & a reliable vehicle
Knowledge of computers and other office equipment.
Successful completion of CPR C/AED.
Ability to speak Cree.
