3 Language Survey Research Assistants

Mandate is to support, reclaim, revitalize and maintain and strengthen the Cree language and way of life in our Cree Nation community. To increase our understanding of the state that our Cree language is currently at. Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is looking for highly motivated individuals for the position of Cree Language Field Researcher for the Cree Nation.
 
Position Overview and Responsibilities:


  • Reporting directly to the Lead Researcher. 
  • Communicate regularly with Lead Researcher to seek input and feedback on progress of survey activities.
  • Attend training and professional development to maintain and improve job skills and knowledge.
  • Gather data using given surveys and interviews conducted in the field i.e., detailed data on reported level of proficiency in our Cree language.
  • Be involved in conducting field research and have direct interaction with Ahtahkakoop members.


Duties:
  • Attend training as needed or provided.
  • Conduct field survey of the language status of all Ahtahkakoop community in various age groups to ask questions about the languages they speak at home and elsewhere. 
  • To visit Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation homes to ask given interview questions.
 
 
Qualifications/Required Competencies:

  • Grade 12 preferred and will consider community members who can work with technology.
  • Fluent Cree language speakers are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with others (written or spoken) with the ability to build positive relationships with community members, Elders, and knowledge holders.
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, traditions, language, and protocols.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to track, analyze, and report issues.
  • Positive role model and positive attitude.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information.
  • Good organizational skills, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • The ability to speak and write Cree is an asset.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
 
 
Salary: $20/hour
